UC Conference Marks 25 years of German Unification

East and West Germany were united on October 3, 1990 and the Berlin Republic has since emerged as a leader in world affairs. The multidisciplinary conference convened at the University of Cincinnati opens on October 4, 2015 — almost precisely 25 years to the day of unification. It is generously underwritten by the German embassy, among other sponsors.

Organized by the German studies department, some 15 scholars from Europe and the united states will assess the current status of Germany’s unification — sociologists consider the generational divide in post-unification families, architectural historians interpret the transformation of the post-wall center of Berlin, even film, literary and soccer culture will be evaluated.

The conference is free and open to the public and it takes place in the old chemistry building 736 on the Clifton campus. The two days of sessions commence at 9 on October 5 and 6.
