Gia Tatsashvili’s Farewell speech
First of all I would like to thank our host organization and it’s members, our host families, our interrupters who spent the time and energy with us during this stay. Everyone from our group achieved a new experience and knowledge that we will use for our country. This is important but I would like to emphasis that everyone from our group made new American friends, new contacts and felt human worth which we are feeling each day.
19 years ago when our program coordinator Jeanne was 3 years old, I was serving in the army/military of the Soviet Union. We were waking up at 5:20 each morning. And it was very hard. But we were told that this is necessary because we have dangerous enemies, Americans and we must be ready to defend ourselves every minute. Somewhere deep in our hearts we did not believe that this would happen. Of course later we realized it was just communist propaganda. So this day convinced me again America is perfectly characterized by the words of it’s Constitution .
There is no happiness without Freedom. Freedom without self government. Self government without Constitution . Constitution without morality. Your American society is based on morality and respect of each other. But in this world there are still many threats and dangers and we should cooperate to make the world a better tomorrow. As a symbol of such cooperation, I brought to America my military broach of the Soviet Army. I wanted to pass it to the person who I associate with America. I think everyone will agree that I pass this broach to Jeanne, the young lady who first met us in the land of America and during our stay here I think she also awakened at 5:20 in the morning in order to plan our activities and help us but not for war but to help us. Again I would like to thank you all.
Thank you,
Gia Tatsashvili
