  • Terrorism
  • APEC Nuclear free Zone
  • Sustainable Development and the Environment
  • Emeregency Preparedness

It also develops skills in:

  • research
  • analysis
  • negotiation
  • assertiveness
  • critical thinking
  • diplomacy and persuasion

The Global Center teams with the University of Cincinnati to host the annual Model APEC Summit. All high schools are invited to participate in this student simulation of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. APEC, established in 1989, is a cooperative, multilateral economic forum. Through dialogue and a consensus based decision making process, its 21 members seek to reduce trade barriers through free trade and investment. APEC summits cover topics ranging from trade and investment to environmental concerns to global politics and the war on terrorism. The Model APEC simulation, similar to Model UN, puts high school teams in the positions of government ministers, where they negotiate resolutions on their assigned country’s behalf.
