2008 International Education Summit: Emerging Careers in Global Sustainability

Friday November 21st, 2008 - Northern Kentucky University

Keynote Speaker: Chris Flavin, President, Worldwatch Institute, Washington D.C.

This year, our annual International Education Summit hosted approximately 426 students and teachers from regional high schools where students were engaged in discussions about issues of sustainability including Renewable Energy, Green Building and Reduce Reuse Recycle from regional business leaders, non-profits, colleges and civic bodies. Students analyzed issues presented in addresses, panels, and small groups. Through networking and breakouts, they learned what opportunities will be available to them in this field later in their educational and career path. Fifty-two speakers joined us at NKU for the day to network with the students and provide the discussion panels. Below is a link to an article written by Cindy Kranz of the Cincinnati Enquirer who attended the event as well as the panelists of the day.

“End of the Line: The Rise and Coming Fall of the Global Corporation”
Barry C. Lynn
Senior Fellow
New America Foundation

Barry Lynn is the author of the hard-hitting and much acclaimed book, “End of the Line: The Rise and Coming Fall of the Global Corporation”.  He analyzes the consequences, instabilities and vulnerabilities of the global production networks American companies have created.  An earthquake in Taiwan leads to layoffs in California as supply chains are disrupted.  Natural or manmade disasters can cascade into global crisis.  He argues that globalization can be a force for spreading prosperity and promoting peace, but only if we approach it in a way that manages its complexities and advances our national interest.  Whether you are directly involved in global business or a concerned citizen you will want to hear his thought provoking analysis of globalization.
