The Caledonian Society of Cincinnati was formed in 1827, and is the oldest Caledonian Society in continuing existence in the United States. It was initially formed for the purpose of aiding indigent Scottish immigrants in the Cincinnati area. Since then, the Society has grown into an organization devoted to preserving and promoting Scottish culture and heritage. To that end we offer this resource to our members and the general public as a guide to things and events Scottish, both past and present.
Biography
Professor Carlton-Ford examines the impact of social conditions on the well-being of children & adolescents. He conducts research on the impact of wars and militarization on social (and economic) development using cross-national data. His expertise includes: Infant Mortality; Child Mortality; Armed Conflict; Civil War; War; Militarization; Military Spending; Military Participation Rate; MPR; Praetorian Militarization; Safe Water; Improved Sanitation; Social Development; and Human Development. He is also an Affiliate of the Kunz Center for Social Research, University of Cincinnati as well as with the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Cincinnati.

Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio is the largest provider of direct resettlement services for refugees in Hamilton County and Southwestern Ohio. Over the past thirty-one years, more than 11,000 refugees have been resettled in the Greater Cincinnati area under the auspices of Catholic Charities, an affiliate of the United States Catholic Conferences Migration and Refugee Services (USCC/MRS).

Cincilingua provides intensive language training courses, specializing in English as a Second Language (ESL) and Business English. Our courses are shaped to meet the student’s specific individual needs. French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Japanese, Russian, and many others are also taught in a private one-on-one setting at Cincilingua’s language school.

Liuzhou became a Sister City on May 5, 1988. Cincinnati and Liuzhou celebrated their 20th anniversary with a signing ceremony and the official unveiling of the Duke Energy Center Sister Cities display on April 8, 2008. Located on the banks of the winding Liu River in the Guangxi Province, this prosperous cultural and industrial city of 1.4 million is located in Southern China. Founded 2100 years ago, Liuzhou is known for its beautiful landscapes that have inspired Chinese artists since 1700 BC. Caves and gnarly stones, karsts and hills are complemented by numerous archeological sites. Its national parks feature architectural displays characteristic of structures built by China’s minority inhabitants.

The Munich Sister City Association of Greater Cincinnati is a group of volunteers whose goal is to promote business, cultural, educational, legal and sports exchanges between the cities of Cincinnati, Ohio USA and Munich, Germany. The Munich Sister City Association of Greater Cincinnati is a founding member of the official Sister Cities Association of Greater Cincinnati, a member of Sister Cities International, Inc.

We are a small band of volunteers who love France, and in particular have come to know and love Nancy France. We are not all Americans, and do not necessarily speak french, but many of us do, and some as their first language. Our association with Nancy is one of Cincinnati’s oldest and most active Sister City relationships. Since 1991, there has been a long history of unique and meaningful exchanges and programs. The relationship’s four goals are: Educational Enhancement, Economic Development, Environmental Sustainability, and Arts and Cultural Exchange.

The Office of the Mayor, the City of Cincinnati, and the OKI Sister City Coalition support Cincinnati’s interaction with these cities. Additionally, each Sister City has its own committee or association, which is directly responsible for the partnership by organizing its membership, budget, programs, activities, and visits. The Sister City committees and associations organize exchanges that include education, culture, science, commerce, and government.
Biography
Cincinnati Area Returned Volunteers (CARV) is an active affiliate of the National Peace Corps Association with about 75 members who are Returned Peace Corps Volunteers. We hold bimonthly social events with a speaker (RPCV or community speaker), hold bimonthly business meetings, support local PCVs through the Peace Corps Partnership program, conduct service projects, work closely with the Chicago Regional Peace Corps Office and enjoy joint activities with our fellow RPCVs in the Southwestern Ohio Returned Volunteer Organization (SORVO).

Located in scenic Eden Park, the Cincinnati Art Museum features an unparalleled art collection of more than 60,000 works spanning 6,000 years. In addition to displaying its own broad collection, the Art Museum also hosts several national and international traveling exhibitions each year. Visitors can enjoy the exhibitions or participate in the Art Museum’s wide range of art-related programs, activities and special events. General admission is always free for all, plus Art Museum members receive additional benefits. The Art Museum is open six days a week, making greater Cincinnati’s most treasured cultural asset accessible to everyone.

The Cincinnati Ballet celebrated their 46th anniversary in 2010-11 under the artistic direction of Victoria Morgan who has been with the ballet for the past 14 years. The Ballet performs at the Aronoff Center for the Arts in downtown Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Ballet Center. Dancers come from countries all over the world including Cuba, Turkey, China, as well as the United States. Each season the Cincinnati Ballet performs from the worldwide classical repertoire as well as new works.

The Cincinnati Caledonian Pipes and Drums was formed in 1912 and continues to perform and promote traditional Scottish Bagpipe and Drum music in the Tri-state area. We are one of the oldest pipe bands in the United States and Cincinnati’s official Pipe and Drum corp. We are a 501c3 non-profit group. We teach pipes and drums to anyone interested in learning.
