Become a Board Member, Advisor, or Join our Young Professional Advisory Group

We are now accepting Board of Directors & Advisory Group nominations for the upcoming 2024 year (including nominations for our inaugural Young Professionals Advisory Group). Whether you are already a local leader wanting to broaden your network or just starting out, you will surround yourself with professionals from all aspects within our community. Regardless of your current career experience, you will gain skills in nonprofit board and volunteer work while connecting with inspiring peers. With priority access to speakers, conferences & 1-1 interactions with world-class leaders (both national and international), you will get the opportunity to broaden your professional network and even have plenty of inspiration for places to visit. Submissions are due January 5th with the term starting at our annual meeting at the end of January.

Become an Intern

The World Affairs Council recruits up to 3 unpaid interns every school semester and summer break. An internship at the council provides students and young professionals with valuable experience in an exciting international non-profit environment. Interns commit to a 3-5 month period for a minimum of 16 hours per week, in addition to a few occasional events. Apply for an internship at World Affairs Council to grow your professional skills, form lasting relationships with interesting people, and further an important global mission. Every applicant will be considered; Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky need your help!

The World Affairs Council has several rotating internship positions.

Global Guide Fellow

Seeking international students to create lesson plans on their home country to share on our Global Ed Portal.

In partnership with school districts, global community partners, and collaborating businesses, the World Affairs Council leads global education efforts through innovative, interactive, and experiential programming. The Global Guide Fellow will assist with our Global Education Programs, as the Council transitions to virtual programming serving local students K-Adult. As a team member for the Council you may also be asked to attend events, programs, and write for the Council blog.

Global Exchange Intern

  • Research local resources (community groups, government agencies, business and political leaders, etc.) and current local issues for programs or proposals
  • Arrange professional appointments with influential local leaders for visitors
  • Create professional appointment itinerary programs for exchange participants
  • Create transportation itinerary
  • Assist with pre, during, and post program correspondence with resources
  • Attend meetings with international visitors when needed
  • Create welcome packets: visitors, hosts and professional resources evaluations, and thank you letters
  • Write engaging blog posts summarizing activities
  • Assist in other special projects as required

Global Programs Intern

  • Coordinate and plan global education programs and curriculum
  • Attend programs and assist with implementation
  • Develop program materials for events
  • Research international topics and events
  • Share Cincinnati event findings with other interns for calendar updates and promotional campaigns
  • Write engaging blog posts summarizing activities
  • Assist with other projects

Global Communications Intern

  • Assist with event marketing and promotional material
  • Create marketing plan an advertisement for each event
  • Assist in planning of annual fundraiser
  • Write press releases and media alerts
  • Research potential media contacts
  • Coordinate visual content for social media and web
  • Write engaging blog posts summarizing activities
  • Manage and edit content on globalcincinnati.org with content from other interns
  • Create graphics for promotional material
  • Create infographics regarding stats
  • Research effective methods to increase website traffic
  • Assist with other research projects
  • Create and manage Wiki page
  • Complete office administrative responsibilities
  • Record visitor, host, and professional resource evaluations
  • Write engaging blog posts summarizing activities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a relevant program
  • Experience in WordPress, Weebly, and Wikipedia
  • Basic understanding of SEO, SMO, Google Analytics and Webmaster
  • Examples of previous production and editing of engaging digital content
  • HTML coding experience
